I don’t want the people that read page A 8 to think that we, the writers, know each other. We have never met. Not once have we ever had a writers meeting. Yet somehow, it seems that we know a little about each other.

Winter is a great time for outdoors exploration

Taking a day trip to a Kansas State Park in the fall or winter has certain advantages, notably the absence of ticks, mosquitoes, and other irritants. Also, it’s not so hot outside. If you plan your trip well or are lucky, you may enjoy pleasant temperatures in the 50s and 60s with little wind. Incidentally, midweek is a great time to visit a state park, as you will probably have the space entirely to yourself.

KDWP to receive $4.3M in grants to conserve at-risk wildlife

Kansas City, Kan. – In an announcement made by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on Oct. 19, 2022, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks will receive a portion of more than $66.7 million in matching grants to be distributed across 16 states and Guam in support of imperiled species. The grant dollars are made possible by the Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund – grants that contribute millions annually to support implementing state and territorial programs that conserve and recover federally listed and atrisk species on non-federal lands.
