Kansas oil spill contained, but chemicals found downstream

Chemicals from the Keystone pipeline spill in north-central Kansas have shown up farther downstream in Mill Creek than the oil company’s repeated statements suggest. TC Energy and regulatory agencies say the oil spill is limited to a containment area — the length of the stream that lies between where the company’s pipeline burst and where workers quickly built an earthen dam about four miles downstream.

City pool tops discussions, decisions, and donations, for the year – Year in Review 2022

Looking back at the top stories published each year in the Pratt Tribune is always a trip down memory lane. Sometimes it is hard to believe all that has happened in just one year, other times it’s just hard to understand how time flew by so quickly. Sometimes looking back at a year in review helps one understand the bigger picture, the slice of life, all that we have to be thankful for here in Pratt, the Gateway to the High Plains.

Improvement district created for Sandy Creek Addition

After months of consideration, the City of Pratt passed ordinance 2215 creating a Community Improvement District for the Sandy Creek Addition. The community improvement district is allowed to levy ‘specials,’ special taxes or fees, from the area within the district in order to fund special projects for the improvement of properties within the district. “This is something we’ve been working on for quite a while. It is a necessary part of the game plan for Sandy Creek and the specials,” Mayor Deeds said.

IN MEMORIUM

We share these names of those who passed in the year 2022, as published in the Pratt Tribune, Kiowa County Signal and St. John News.

Winter storm Elliott blasts through Pratt

An arctic blast dubbed Winter Storm Elliott hit the High Plains and much of the central United States the week of Christmas, causing many to adjust holiday plans. For those living in Pratt County, Kansas, it was just a part of life to deal with as below zero temperatures and dangerous wind chills were part of a system that caused power outages and hit the Pratt area December 21-23. A -7 temperature was recorded at the Peoples Bank Building just after 7:30 a.m. on Thursday. Area weather stations predicted -30 and -40 degree wind chills for Wednesday night and Thursday.
