Adventures in Reading: What should children read?

I have quoted Albert Einstein’s remark about the importance of reading to young children, and when asked what else he would suggest, he replied, read to them even more. I have blogged about students in college who cannot read, as well as about efforts by teachers to help students that are falling behind because they cannot read and yet receive no time for special instruction and are passed on. Recently, I have read that educators are trying to correct those inadequacies with special teachers to help students struggling to read.

Pratt softball sweeps Nickerson and Hoisington in CKL match ups

The Pratt High School softball team was able to pick up needed wins against multiple CKL opponents after a slow start to the 2025 season. These were against Nickerson and Hoisington, who the Lady Greenbacks were able to sweep to improve their regular season record. First, Pratt most recently matched up against the Nickerson Panthers in a doubleheader at Green Sports Complex.

Pratt students honored for academic achievements

The 51st gathering of the Pratt High School Scholarship Recognition Banquet was held on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the Pratt Municipal Building. This year 14 freshmen, 19 sophomores, 17 juniors, and 31 seniors were honored for their academic achievements. Hudson Rector, senior, was recognized for achieving an ACT score of 30.

Easter is a time of the year when we tend to think about happy things, new birth, spring, rabbits, chicks, eggs, and so forth. But the Christian who believes in Christ also must acknowledge suffering, death, and the resurrection. It’s not something that is easy to think about.

League sportsmanship recipients honored by the KSHSAA

Pratt High School and Skyline High School have been names Sportsmanship Award Winners for the 2024-25 basketball competition year by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. These two schools in the Tri-County Tribune coverage area were among 36 Kansas high schools eligible to receive such an award, as voted on by peers in their respective leagues.
