MANHATTAN, Kan. – A Kansas 4-H official is praising the work of volunteers across the state, indicating that their contribution to the state’s largest youth leadership program is vital to the development of many Kansas kids.
The Pratt High School baseball team has continued to compete well in the regular season schedule. Most recently, they played against Kingman and Hillsboro in two doubleheaders, and they were able to sweep both squads.

I graduated from Barclay College with a Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies earlier this month. In this season of graduations, what I accomplished wasn’t really such a big deal, but for me the journey was tough! I would not have made it were it not for that ‘cloud of witnesses’ that God supplied in this endeavor.
Two wrecks took place the first week in May on U.S. Highway 54 in Kiowa County. The first was a double-semi side swipe that ripped open the trailer of one semi truck and left a second truck nose-ended on the nearby railroad tracks on the north side of the highway near the Pratt County line. The second wreck on May 8 claimed the lives of a woman and two children when a Ford F-150 they were in crashed head-on with a semi-truck one mile east of Mullinville.
The Pratt Elks Lodge #1451 recently dedicated its patio to local veterans, naming it the “Veterans’ Veranda.” This dedication took place during a Veteran’s breakfast on March 8th, where veterans, spouses, and guests were honored. The funds for the patio refurbishment came from the 2024 “Swingin’ Fore Veterans” golf scramble, which also contributed to a 300-gallon aquarium for the Kansas Soldier’s Home in Fort Dodge, KS, a Veteran’s Dinner in November and a $1,200 donation to the Kansas Honor Flight.
It is no wonder that I have run out of space for proper storage in my closets and cupboards. The explanation is that I save too much, and the proof of that is the clipping that inspired this blog. MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas Forest Service has confirmed the presence of the emerald ash borer within the Marais des Cygnes National Wildlife Refuge near Pleasanton, the first confirmed sighting found in Kansas this year.
