It was standing room only and park-at-your-own risk for Mead Lumber’s remodel grand opening last Thursday in Pratt. Community residents turned out for free food, new tool drawings, lots of swag gifts, and a chance to look inside at a remodel of a business building a reputation for great customer service.
The Kansas Office of the State Bank Commissioner (OSBC) has awarded five scholarships totaling $25,000 to five recent Kansas high school graduates. The students wrote essays demonstrating their knowledge of money management and the importance it has on their future in this year’s Kansas Financial Scholars Essay Contest.
Royals left-hander Kris Bubic has been named the American League Pitcher of the Month for May, Major League Baseball announced Monday. The honor caps off a sensational month for the 27-year-old, who dominated opposing hitters and etched his name into Kansas City Royals history books.
The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is the lead Law Enforcement and Public Safety agency for the County. They work in cooperation with the City Police Departments, Kansas Highway Patrol and KBI. They assist Fire and EMS departments with various calls as needed.
The sights, sounds, smells and hard work of wheat harvest are all around this week. Big trucks pulling combines, headers, grain trailers and fuel are lumbering down the main highways that crisscross through Pratt. Locally, farmers are working on equipment and clipping through wheat acres at a pretty fast pace. Despite the rains, dust clouds swirl up from the fields as the cutters pass through. Drivers are lined up at area elevators dropping off their precious cargo, always watching the sky and wondering how much time is left to get it all the wheat harvested and under storage.
The 2025 wheat harvest seemed to get off to a hit-and-miss kind of start in central Kansas this past week, but by the weekend many combines were making dust and gleaning grain in the Tri-County Tribune coverage area.

The Pratt Police Department consists of a chief of police, 12 officers and 7 other staff members. It is the duty of the chief of police and all sworn law enforcement personnel to preserve good order, peace and quiet throughout the city as provided by law. They have the power to make arrest under proper process on view of any offense against the laws of the state of Kansas or the laws of the city.
More well known in Pratt as Officer Eck of the Pratt Police Department, Mason Eck said that being a police officer has always been his dream job.
