PRMC Fall Prevention Day in October requires early sign-up and planning

Bunched up rugs, a poorly placed extension cord, missing hand rails in the bathroom, or any number of other small problems can lead to preventable falls for the elderly. On Saturday, October 11, Pratt Regional Medical Center will lead a Pratt Community Fall Prevention Day to help prevent these types of falls. Early sign-up for this assistance and getting the word out to those who could use this help is a priority at this time, according to Stacey Hanson.

Finding common ground leads to new opportunities

Good friends can have a good time no matter what they are doing together. That is how I ended up helping with a Yoga on the Farm event at Hildebrand Dairy near Junction City recently. The event was organized by CommonGround Kansas, an organization of farm women in Kansas who share information and personal stories about farming and the food they grow.

Free developmental screening clinic planned for Pratt

A free screening clinic for children from birth-to-5 will be held in Pratt to help parents determine if their child’s development is age-appropriate. The screening is planned for Monday, July 21st at the Pratt First United Methodist Church, 100 N. Jackson St. Appointments are necessary so appropriate screening can be accomplished.

Survival Flight makes 4th of July visit in Greensburg

Late afternoon thunderstorms caused a postponement of the large fireworks exhibition in Greensburg on the 4th of July, but area residents still gathered at the Big Well Park for an evening of shared food, visiting, and live music. A special appearance by a Survival Flight helicopter and emergency crew was a treat for those who gathered mid-town for the holiday event.

Organic farm tours offered with Ogallala Commons partnership

Ogallala Commons (www.ogallalacommons.org), in partnership with K-State Research and Extension Wild West District, invites food producers, gardeners and the interested public to attend an Organic Transition Farm Tour on Thursday, July 24 at the K-State Research & Education Building (1081 Stadium Ave) in Liberal, KS, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Central Time. In addition to a visit to two farm sites, the tour will provide information for the transition to organic production of specialty crops, as well as networking opportunities.
