Peaceful Prairies Poetry: The importance of poetry explained

Memories of poems and former lines,Memories of pages and faraway rhymes;Still rings the echo from far away,Still rings the lyrics from the bygone day!And still lingers the lines of former lore,That we once heard thru the back porch door!Oh the hours pored in at memories pace,To quote with care, yes face to face!Stories recalled from a bygone day,Of work and joy and childhood play! And stories told with seriousness,Of worship in Gods’ holy place! Those lines that made us think a lot,And smell the smells and learn the plot!We still see grandma by the stove,And to taste her pie, by jove! And follow grandpa to the barn,While ‘e labored hard upon the farm!Look back and from those lessons glean,A way of life without that screen! So learn the lines from yesteryear,And to your heart hold them dear!Learn their truths as you walk this sod,Let them lead you back to God!.dbs.

Community concert features war stories and songs

While World War II cast a long, dark shadow over the globe, the recent Pratt Community Concert featuring Kathy Kaefer, “Kiss Me Once: Stories from the Homefront,” illustrated ways that hope carried people through that difficult time.Kaefer wove a 1940s tapestry for the audience as she shared stories gleaned from oral history interviews; read from wartime letters between soldiers and their wives; and, sang largely positive songs that captured the ambiance of those years.
