Macksville athletes excel in track and field meets; two athletes sign letters of intent

Macksville High School track and field athletes have had a busy couple of weeks, competing in area meets and celebrating two signings for college play.According to coach Jennifer Gillespie, Macksville’s Kambry Adams has signed a letter of intent to compete for Pratt Community College in volleyball and basketball this fall, while Mayce Russell has signed with Kansas Wesleyan to compete in track and field.Amid those celebrations, local competition continues with Mustang best and personal records.“Kambry took the javelin competition at the Spearville Invitational throwing 115’11 besting three state qualifiers from last season,” Gillespie said.

Preston raises money for playground

Citizens from Preston and the surrounding area gathered at the Community Building in that town on Saturday evening to raise money for children’s playground equipment.A spokesperson said that old playground equipment at the now vacant Preston School needed to be replaced and town leaders hoped to create a city park in that area.According to Kansas history researcher Emily Cowan, the Preston School was built in 1921 and at one time had an enrollment of 233 students.
