Unsolved murder mystery receives new life through family-authored book

Kim Hurley Andrews, a former pastor in Stafford County, has announced the publication of a book she wrote about a family tragedy that took place in 1923. “When the Leaves Began to Unfold: The Hurley Murder Mystery” tells the story of a triple murder that happened on her great-grandfather’s farm. Five miles southeast of Meriden, Kan., the land now sits on the banks of Perry Lake.

The Leadership League of South Central Kansas, sponsored by South Central Community Foundation, is now accepting applications for its highly regarded leadership development program, serving Barber, Comanche, Kingman, Kiowa, Pratt, Rice, and Stafford counties. The upcoming 2025–2026 class marks the 33rd year of this impactful initiative, originally established as Pratt Leadership 2000 in 1992.
