Alma(1), deeply concerned that the people (1) were forgetting God, praised his second son Shiblon for his steadiness and faithfulness to God, and counseled him, saying “I hope that you will continue in keeping his commandments; for blessed is he that endureth to the end.”(2)“And now,” Alma continued, “I have told you this that ye may learn wisdom, that ye may learn…that there is no other way or means whereby man can be saved, only in and through Christ.(3) Behold, he is the life and light of the world…he is the word of truth and righteousness.”(4)Alma counseled his son Shiblon to beware of pride, and to bridle all his passions “that ye may be filled with love.”(5), and to refrain from idleness, and to pray for forgiveness of his unworthiness and to ask the Lord to remember those around him in mercy, that the Lord would receive him into his kingdom at the last day, to sit down in peace.(6)In short, Alma counseled his son in the ways of wisdom, which are the ways of righteousness, which are to take upon us the cross we have to bear, and to follow the Holy One of Israel, the Lord Jesus Christ, in our daily lives, as long as we are given the gift of life on this wonderful but challenging world - which ways lead us on to deep satisfaction, happiness - and on to God.--Footnotes - from “The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ”(1) Alma was a Nephite prophet.
