Peaceful Prairies Poetry: A good old-fashioned forth

To awake in the morn with a pop- pop-pop…Seems how it was meant to be…We’d scare from hens, their eggs and their squawk …Twas the forth of July…, yes-sir-ee!Ah yes tis the day, to freedom celebrate….Uptown there’d be a big parade….And there’d be parties, not a few…So enjoy the liberty that God has given to you!Just maybe, we’d have a game of, bat and ball…And pretend, to be, players from the famous hall..If only we, like “Ruth”, could hit that home run ball…Or throw a pitch, like Ryan, why, we could fan ‘em all!But this is the forth, there’s picnics everywhere …Sweet corn, watermelon, goodies to enjoy and share..Horseshoes, swimming, and an occasional prank…Then to top it off, home made ice cream, to freeze and crank! It all goes back, when, for tyranny we wouldn’t stand…And not let another, rule this, our prized homeland…God gave this land her freedom to share with all the world…And with ole glory, the gospel to, was unfurled! So remember as you celebrate…All the freedoms you have today…And for each freedom, someone had to pay…On this “Forth”, be thankful, and hold them dear alway!.dbs.

Explore Kansas Outdoors: Snakes on the move

I don’t know what makes some people deathly afraid of snakes and other people not, but I was blessed (or cursed) with the latter; we’ll call it a “healthy respect.” Now, don’t misunderstand me, I don’t want a snake for a pet, to wear around my neck or to curl up on my lap for scratches like our pups, but I’m not much afraid of them.
