Local students named to Dean’s Honor Roll at Wichita State University

Wichita State University has announced the names of 3,430 students who were on the WSU Dean’s Honor Roll for spring 2024.To be included on the dean’s honor roll, a student must be enrolled full time (at least 12 credit hours) and earn at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.Wichita State University is Kansas’ only urban public research university, enrolling more than 23,000 students between its main campus and WSU Tech, including students from every state in the U.S.

Great Plains Wondering: The dog days of summer are upon us

Stepping outside early one morning last week into the warm mugginess reminded me that we are in the dog days of summer—actually nearing the tail-end.The dog days of summer, which began on July 3 and end on August 11, coincide with the rising of the dog star, Sirius, which is the brightest star in earth’s sky, other than the sun.

Pastoral Commentary: We are all neighbors

There is a poem by Robeert Frost called Mending Fences, the first line in it says “Something there is that doesn’t love a wall, that sends the frozen-ground-swell under it, and spills the upper boulders in the sun.” It is about a stone wall made of large rocks piled on each other that were especially common in New England where Frost was from.
