Christmas in the Park is a success

Hundreds of people took part in the Lemon Park Lighting event at the 2024 Christmas in the Park, and even though the big tree didn’t light up at the end of the big count down (right away, anyway) there were plenty of other lights that glowed when the switch was flipped.Oohs and ahhs filled the air as more than 100 displays lit up in the darkening dusk and Santa laughed “Hohoho” and childrens’ smiles were from ear to ear, despite sticky cotton-candy hands and faces and hot cocoa lips.Pratt Elks Lodge volunteers placed their own stickers on more than 250 kids who stopped by to decorate cookies that encouraged them to stay drug free.

Skyline hosts the Sterling Jazz Band

On Tuesday, November 19, Skyline Schools was given the rare opportunity to listen to a college-level performance when the Sterling College Jazz Band played a set for the staff and students, some of which admitted that they had never heard live jazz music before.Toes were tapping and heads were bobbing to the rhythm as every section of the 17-piece band was represented in different songs by improvisational solo performances.

“I think I just swallowed my valve stem cap,” Dan casually mentioned to the rest of us, shortly after we had unloaded our bicycles on Tumbleweed Road, Barber County (admittedly I once did the same thing during a winter night’s ride, years ago, but that’s another story). This would be the first of many mishaps during our Gyp Hills adventure, which was an afternoon filled with red dirt, exquisite beauty, and quite a few bison. The cast included Tony Conn, Dan McAnarney, Dan Updegraff, David Blair, and me—three locals and two from the Wichita area.David got the first flat.
