The Tri-County Tribune will be naming one male and one female as our Athletes of the Week throughout the 2024 fall sports season, picking from high school students in the five schools in our coverage area: Pratt High School, Skyline High School, Macksville High School, Stafford High School, St. John High School, and Kiowa County High School. At the end of the season, readers will vote on their favorite High School Fall Athlete of the season. Watch our website at www.tricountytribune.news for more information on this end-of-season award.
Anyone may nominate a player for an Athlete of the Week award, simply email stats and other important information from the schools in our coverage area only to Tri-County Tribune Editor Jennifer Stultz at jstultz@cherryroad.com.
Owen Schmidt of Pratt High School has been named our first ever 2024 Tri-County Tribune male Athlete of the Week after making a huge impact in the Pratt Greenback’s football win, 70-0, over Larned on Friday, September 20 during a home game in Zerger Field in Pratt.
Schmidt had 2 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries, 4 defensive touchdowns, and 1 receiving touchdowns, for a total of 6 touchdowns in just 1 quarter.
Our female Athlete of the Week pick for week 1 of this contest is Pratt High School senior volleyball player Ryann Eastes (4A) surpassed 1,000 career assists as they went 2-0 beating Nickerson and Smoky Valley in league action last week. Congratulations to Eastes and the Lady Greenbacks as they continue their winning ways this week!
Be sure to check in each week at www.tricountytribune.news to find out the new Athletes of the Week nominated from the Tri-County Tribune coverage area (Pratt, Kiowa, and Stafford counties).
Special thanks to the City of Pratt for sponsoring this project endeavor!
