S-P-E-L-L-I-N-G B-E-E! The Kiowa County Spelling Bee was originally scheduled for February 12th and then got rescheduled for the 19th. However, due to snow, it was rescheduled again and was finally held on the 27th of February at 10 a.m. at the Ross Ellis Center in Haviland.
The competitors from Kiowa County Junior High included seventh graders Rowdy Young, 6th graders Caleb Watson and Gwen Smith.
Young received 1st place at the Kiowa County Spelling Bee.
“I think the spelling bee went a lot better than last year. I did pretty good,” he said. “A lot of the people did really good this year. I am very happy with my placing.”
The winning word was “artificial.”
Official county placings were Rowdy Young: 1st, Julian Garcia: 2nd, Caleb Watson: 3rd.
