The Lady Tigers of St. John continued their winning ways this past week with victories over Otis-Bison (68-27) and Victoria (60-29). The Lady Tigers are 14-5 and finish out the regular season at home this Friday (February 21) vs. Macksville on Senior Night.

Against the Otis-Bison Cougars last week, four St. John-Hudson players reached double-digit scoring. Lily Brummer came out of oblivion with 17 points to lead the team. Reagan Bonner scored 14, Mia Meyer 12, and Lydia Reed 10.

“We were able to get a lot of easy baskets off of our full court pressure. We didn’t do everything right, but certainly played hard,” said Head Coach Danny Smith. “Individually, Lily Brummer had a big game with a double-double of 17 points (8 of 10 shooting) and 13 rebounds.”

An effective defense paved the way for an easy Lady Tiger victory over Victoria earlier in the week.

“We defended pretty well and got a lot of open shots. We just shot pretty poorly, but were still able to get a lot of easy baskets. We held their leading scorer to 7 points, who has been averaging 15 ppg, so we felt pretty good about that,” said Smith. “Individually, Lydia Reed had a really good game, recording another double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, not including her 7 blocks and 3 steals. Mia and Reagan each scored 13 points as well.”

The St. John Lady Tigers are 14-5 and ranked #9 in state 1A-D1 girls basketball by Kansas Pregame 2025 Rankings. Their first round of Substate competition will take place Saturday, March 1 at 7 p.m., in St. John, when the Lady Tigers (ranked #2 in substate) take on the winner of Coldwater-South Central (7) and Langdon-Fairfield (10). Those two teams play Monday, February 24.
