The USD 438 Board of Education met on Monday, January 13, when they discussed the various updates and news concerning their school district. This was also the first regular meeting of the year 2025. Board President Rex Robinson called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M.

First, a motion was made by Board members Jerry DeWeese and Nicole Curtis to amend the consent agenda. This motion removed the treasurer’s report, as well as all financial items except for the activity funds. However, items such as the reading and approval of the previous meeting’s minutes and the SCKSEC minutes were still read. Dustin Eubank and Mark Graber motioned to approve the consent agenda.

Following this was the Superintendent’s Report, given by Becca Flowers. She discussed upcoming negotiations and gave an update on various investments. After that, Principals Diane House and Steven Novotny gave their building reports. These included December data on things like tardies, absences, academics, and discipline.

There was only one item in old business from the January meeting. This concerned a bid from INA Alert. A motion was made by DeWeese and Allen Smith to accept this bid, which will

allow digital building access to be completed August 1 of 2025. This bid will not exceed $61,406.46.

Items from new business include:

– A motion that was made by DeWeese and Smith that approved re-electing Rex Robinson as the President, and Robinson and DeWeese motioned to approve the re-election of Nicole Curtis as Vice President.

– The Board previewed the 2025-26 calendar, and only discussion was held regarding it.

– Curtis and McComb motioned to adopt the KASB Policy Updates as they were presented.

After these items were reviewed and approved, the meeting was adjourned at 8:36 P.M.
