The Pratt High School Girls’ Wrestling team recently competed in their second tournament of the year, and they were able to continue the early success they built at their home contest. This second tournament was at Douglass High School on Friday, December 13, and it featured 24 total teams. These included tough schools like Derby, Haysville, Spring Hill, and many others that challenged each of the Lady Greenback wrestlers.
Previously, Pratt hosted its annual home tournament at the PHS gymnasium, and they were able to finish second in the team rankings. They also had multiple individual champions, and they were looking to build on these results in Douglass.
First was Rachel Rawlings, who wrestled in the 110 lbs. class. She went 1-2 on the day, losing to two tough opponents from Spring Hill and Remington. However, her one win came by fall in just over a minute, which allowed her to score 3 team points. Next was Taylor Creadick, who had a solid day. She went 3-2 with all of her wins being pins, and she ended up placing fourth in a stiff 115 lbs. division. She racked up 15 total team points for the Lady Greenbacks.
Gabriella Cervantes wrestled very well for Pratt in the 120 lbs. class. After five total matches, she went 4-1 with four pins, but she sadly lost in the championship match to an undefeated wrestler from Newton, claiming second place in her division. She scored 26 points for Pratt.
Gracelyn Hembree was able to continue the tear that she has been on so far. She went 4-0 on the day, maintaining her undefeated record, and won the individual championship in the 125 lbs. weight class. Three of her wins were by fall, while the other was by a major decision of 17-9. She scored 27 team points.
Similar to Hembree, Wendy Candia remained lossless with her 4-0 performance in 130 lbs. All four of her wins were pins, and two of those came in under a minute. Candia racked up 28 team points. Following her was Adreanna Garcia-Pedroza, who was able to score 10 team points for the Lady Greenbacks in the 140 lbs. class. She did this by claiming a 3-2 record on the day, with all of her wins being pins.
Brylee Richardson also had an excellent day. She wrestled in a tough 150 lbs. division and was able to go 3-1 and place second, only losing to an undefeated girl from Ark City. Two of her wins were by fall, and the other was by a forfeit. In total, she scored 22 team points for Pratt.
Jade Baker was next for Pratt. She wrestled in the 150 lbs. division, and she was able to place fourth. She wrestled in a whopping seven matches at this tournament, and she went 5-2. She had four pins and a win by major decision, and she lost in the third place match due to a medical forfeit. In total, she scored 18 team points.
The last wrestler for Pratt was Elizabeth Stimatze in the 170 lbs. class. She also posted a winning record of 3-2, with all three of her wins coming by fall. After losing in a heartbreaking consolation match by a score of 0-1, she scored 9 points for the Lady Greenbacks. Combined, these performances gave Pratt a total of 158 points, earning them second, just behind Derby.
Pratt traveled to Wichita North on December 20 for their varsity tournament.
