Hundreds of people took part in the Santa and Sleigh Rides events at Bixler’s Art Barn on December 19, 20 and 21. Located just south of Pratt at 20011 SE 20th Avenue, Dick and Nancy Bixler, along with a host of friends, have invited the community out for Christmas fun for several years now. This year the weather was almost perfect.
From 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday before Christmas, hot cocoa went down just right and the bonfire was a welcome stop in the chill but not-too-chill winter evening. An illuminated labyrinth walk welcomed those who sought contemplation time, while a jostling wagon ride behind to well-trained draft horses provided an energizing look at the dusky countryside.
Inside the art barn, Christmas music entertained, Santa and Mrs. Claus listened wisely, free toys were given, plenty of snacks shared, and time for visiting and community connections were appreciated by many.
On Saturday afternoon, from 2-5 p.m., all options for Christmas fun were again on the schedule, just minus the starlight and winter air. Fairy gardens were on display and dancers graced the showroom floor of the art barn.
On all three days Dippy’s Burger shack was on hand to feed the hungry, Christmas treats and cookies were free for all, and special coffee and hot cocoa options were provided by a Coffee Cart trailer outdoors.
Plans are already underway for next year’s event.
