Pratt Public Library’s 2024 ‘Read for Charity’ fundraiser made a $1,229.50 donation to this year’s Pratt Angel Tree Program, thanks to 122,950 pages read by library patrons.

“The number of pages read each year in support of this endeavor is impressive and our sponsors are always so generous,” said Pratt Public Library volunteer Tammy Killough.

The Angel Tree project, run by Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), a group who gives so much to our community, has finished its 32nd year of service in Pratt. This year, 86 families were assisted by a dedicated team of volunteers in finishing up their Christmas preparations.

“We just like to quietly help those who need assistance in making their Christmas merry and bright for children in Pratt County,” said RSVP Director Tara Pagenkopf. “This year Angel Tree tags were available at Walmart and Farm Bureau Financial Services. We also had a great group of volunteers who came in to wrap gifts as needed.”

Pratt County children newborn to 14 years of age, who were registered with the program received at least one new article of clothing. Pagenkopf was on hand to organize the 199 Angels distributions, which took place Wednesday, December 18 at Pratt County Council on Aging at the Community Center.

“We are so blessed by so many donations for this program. We had several people, businesses and organizations who donated including the BPOE Pratt Elks Lodge #1451, who supplied coats and shoes. It just makes Christmas happier for everyone – those who are able to give of their time and talents, and those who receive,” Pagenkopf said. “Pratt Public Library patrons supported the Angel Tree program this year by reading books and keeping track of pages read. Partners Southwest Truck Parts, Inc., The Peoples Bank, and Stanion Electric sponsored 1 cent per page read leading to the total of $1,229.50 going directly to the Angel Tree program.”
