The USD 350 Board of Education of St. John-Hudson met Monday, October 14, 2024. The meeting was called to order by Board President Derek Foote. Members present included Foote, Carl Behr, Trey Burgan, Vance Fisher, Aaron Roach, Shawn Ward, and Katrina Hickel. Staff members present were Josh Meyer Travis Callaway, Kim Helfrich, and Alisa Fisher. Visitors were Ava Smith, Joshua Chapman, Quade Smith, and Aden Adame.
Actions of the board included the approval of a house demolition bid, an online superintendent survey format, and the termination of an employee.
Topping the business agenda was the demolition of a building on district property. Bids were solicited for the demolition of the house north of the high school office. Only one bid was received and it was provided to the board members on the supporting documents file.
Trey Burgan moved and Shawn Ward seconded that the board approve the bid from Custom Service in the amount of $19,975 as presented. This motion was approved unanimously by board members.
While discussing the upcoming Superintendent Evaluation, board members decided to utilize an online format. A copy of the evaluation tool was provided to the board on the supporting documents file.
Concerning the termination of a district employee, the only facts released after an executive board session called pursuant to the non-elected personnel exception under KOMA were that the board voted unanimously to terminate James King’s employment with the district.
In other business, the board:
* heard that enrollment figures were submitted to the state. Information about these enrollment figures and the effect on the budget was provided to the board members on the supporting documents file.
* discussed adding baseball and/or softball to the extracurricular offerings at SJH with information presented by Superintendent Meyer. After considering costs, it was the consensus of the board to look at the program a few years from now and possibly consider co-oping with another district.
* reviewed a strategic plan has been in the works for a few years with the bulk of the focus on facilities.
