Lotus Aesthetics and Wellness Medical Spa, located at 310 South Main in Pratt is offering a new service called the Head Spa. In an attempt to get the word out, they offered this lowly reporter the opportunity to visit their beautiful spa to experience this pampering first-hand. There was only one problem, I suffer from touch-me-not syndrome. Enter my co-worker, friend, and massage aficionado, Gunta. I work with Gunta and know how stressful her job can be. She has been suffering from headaches as of late and felt that maybe a head massage would help. I went along to see what I was missing.

The moment we entered the spa, I was immediately impressed with the ambiance. It is a very welcoming and comfortable space. There is a sense of calm and tranquility that can only be achieved by going to a place of your choosing for a service that you want. More than that, though, there is no rushing, loud voices, or daily irritations. Those are left outside. We were greeted by the Patient Care Coordinator, Megan Hensley, who is as kind and soft-spoken as she is beautiful. Everyone who works at the spa carries an ethereal glow like they are lit from within. The Licensed Aesthetician, Brenna Dolezal, led us back to a private room and the appointment began with a magnified view of the client’s hair follicles to illustrate the amount of build-up of dead cells, products, and air pollution that accumulates on the scalp. Gunta’s scalp looked healthy and clean, yet it was easy to see how the cells had built up at the root level.

The service started with a deep cleaning with a blend of tea tree oil shampoo that was reported to feel tingly and cool but gentle. The smell was intoxicating and Brenna took care to massage every square inch of Gunta’s scalp. Next came a warm rinse from a custom arch-shaped rotating water spigot with jets every inch or so. The gentle rain-like effect washed away all soap and contaminants. A conditioner was added and massaged into the scalp and hair.

At this point, the only way I could tell that Gunta was still awake was by the occasional blissful sigh emanating from beneath the special eye mask that was applied. Another unique rinse was followed by a shoulder/neck massage with the whole process taking just under an hour. A final look at her scalp revealed that it was clean, free of build-up, and slightly pink from increased circulation. Gunta reported that the experience was heavenly and that everyone should try it. In the weeks that followed, her hair was so soft and baby-smooth, she commented that it was like a ‘factory reset.’

I admit, after watching the process and the resulting relaxation and enjoyment, I feel like I missed out. I think I may have to get over my phobia and book a head spa treatment at Lotus.
