A time for co-ops and classrooms
“I am so glad that I live in a world where there are Octobers.” That beloved line from “Anne of Green Gables” has always captured how I feel about this season. Growing up in Wisconsin, October meant crisp mornings that hinted at winter’s approach and warm afternoons that illuminated a canvas of orange, yellow and red across the countryside. It was the month of cranberry harvests, football games and the simple beauty of small-town fall.

USD 350 School Bond Election set for November 4
Next Tuesday, November 4, voters across the country will file into precincts and mark their ballots for local civic leadership as well as state representation. In the St. John–Hudson School District (USD 350) voters will also decide on a proposed $17.9 million facilities bond and a 1% city sales tax (for those within St. John city limits) to assist with repayment.

Runner crosses southwest Kansas on historic 50-state journey
On July 4, 2026, in Hawaii, ultra-runner Noah Coughlan will make history, becoming only the third person ever to cross all 50 U.S. states on foot. His journey, titled “Run For America: A Tribute to the American People,” is a 5,500-mile solo mission across 20 states — and this month, his path brought him through Dodge City.
