MANHATTAN, Kan. – One of the country’s leading authorities on diseases that can spread from animals to humans will be the 12th speaker in Kansas State University’s Henry C. Gardiner Global Food Systems lecture series.
PHS cross country first at Wellington and Goddard meets
The Pratt High School Cross Country Team has been on a tear as of late. Throughout their past few meets, they have been able to find first place finishes in two: Goddard/Lake Afton and Wellington. Most recently, the Greenbacks competed at Goddard on Thursday, September 25.

Pig roast brings community together for a good cause
The annual pig roast meal for Youth Core Ministries in Pratt has been an important fundraiser for at least 25 years. That is at least how long Dennis and Ellen Mohler and their family members have been cooking the hogs. This year, like many others, a fundraising goal was met and area youth will benefit in many ways from the dedication of the Mohlers and many others who have been helping put together this meal through the years.
USD 382 board candidates gather for public forum
Community members gathered at the Pratt Public Library on the evening of September 23 for a USD 382 Board of Education candidate forum hosted by the Pratt Area Chamber of Commerce Legislative Committee. The event featured candidates running for the USD 382 Board of Education and offered an opportunity for them to introduce themselves and discuss their qualifications and motivations for seeking election.
Macksville runners aiming for their goals
Midway through the season, Macksville Cross Country is making progress towards their goal of qualifying for 1A State Championships.

Whooping crane fall migration about to begin
Annually each fall, central Kansas is one of the few places where it is possible to see Whooping Cranes. From late October through early November, up to 60 or more of these rare birds are sighted at Quivira National Wildlife Refuge. The earliest-recorded first arrival, October 6, occurred in 2000, but the average first arrival date is October 21.
