This summer the English department at Pratt Community College graciously donated free writing classes to the public. In June, instructor Amber Graves led a nonfiction course. I’ve come to the conclusion that writing about myself is easy.

Kim Hurley Andrews, a former pastor in Stafford County, has announced the publication of a book she wrote about a family tragedy that took place in 1923. “When the Leaves Began to Unfold: The Hurley Murder Mystery” tells the story of a triple murder that happened on her great-grandfather’s farm. Five miles southeast of Meriden, Kan., the land now sits on the banks of Perry Lake.

The Leadership League of South Central Kansas, sponsored by South Central Community Foundation, is now accepting applications for its highly regarded leadership development program, serving Barber, Comanche, Kingman, Kiowa, Pratt, Rice, and Stafford counties. There is a hero living among the residents of Pratt, Kansas. His name is Gale J. Rose. You may know him best as a major figure in the late Pratt Music Theater. Some of you may remember his parents, the late Marion and Leora Rose. Still others may remember his long contribution to the Pratt Tribune as a reporter, or his one-act Christmas performance.
Because of the risk of falling on stairs, a Pratt couple who wishes to remain anonymous has made the difficult decision to leave their home of 45 years.
