Cloudy skies and wet weather might have discouraged some from showing up Saturday for the second annual Old School Vintage Art Market in Iuka but it didn’t keep vendors from setting up their booths and showcasing their wares. By the end of the day, the skies had cleared and sales rocketed for all those who stuck it out through the wind gusts and early downpours.
In its first year partnering with Fort Hays State University’s Science and Math Education Institute (SMEI), RAISE Kansas is making big strides in connecting rural students with career-ready opportunities.
Don’t let mosquitoes and ticks ruin your carefree summer fun. As we spend more time outdoors for activities like camping, hiking, swimming, picnicking and grilling, or even doing yard work, there is a greater chance of getting bitten by mosquitoes and ticks.

When I was growing up I often heard preachers ask, “if Christianity were illegal, would there be enough evidence to convict you?” It is a question well worth asking. Statistics often report depressing facts about the American church which I will not relate here (though it is worth noting that when the statistician defines a ‘Christian’ as someone who regularly attends church, the statistics become much less discouraging). Obviously most of you are aware of the two water towers in Pratt, that are labeled Hot and Cold and sit close together on North Main Street, also Highway 61. They are not necessarily unique to Pratt as there are 2 or 3 more communities in the country, that I am aware of, that have such towers. Recently, new gardens have been planted beneath our towers, with freshly poured concrete and newly installed benches. The park was dedicated Saturday, June 14th.
Nationally, Saturday, June 14, was the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army. A parade in Washington D.C. celebrated the day with a large showing of troops and military equipment. Around the country, there were also protest groups in big cities and small towns referred to as No Kings Day rallies.
