Demonstrating their commitment to the Pratt community during National Drug Awareness Day, Elks Lodge #1451, in collaboration with the non-profit DEC (Drugs Endangered Children), sponsored a drive-thru “Red Shirt Sundae Celebration” on April 23 for local children. The ice cream treats were accompanied by Elks DAP bookmarks and stickers featuring the “Elks Say No to Drugs” logo.
The USD 382 Board of Education met on Monday, April 7 for their regular monthly meeting. Here, the district administration and Board discussed a variety of new updates and projects going on as the 2024-25 school year ends.
HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State University will host the 66th Annual Western Kansas Technology Education Fair at Gross Memorial Coliseum on Friday, May 2. This exciting event showcases the talents and innovation of junior high and high school students from across Kansas enrolled in technology education programs. Students will present projects ranging from handcrafted furniture and metal works to CAD drawings and advanced drafting. Doors open to the public at 8 a.m., and projects will be available for viewing until 3:30 p.m. Admission is free.
Ryann Eastes is the recipient of the 2025 Chapter IF P.E.O. $500 Scholarship. P.E.O. is an international philanthropic educational organization which was founded at Iowa Wesleyan University in Mount Pleasant, Iowa by seven women on January 21, 1869. Chapter IF is one of two local P.E.O. chapters. The scholarship is given to a Pratt County senior woman annually to assist with the first year of college.
USD 350 hosted the Keith Blide Invitational Track Meet last week in St. John on a windy day that still produced outstanding results.

Recently, when I was downtown, I saw all the volunteers working in the planter boxes up and down Main Street, pulling out old grass, planting spring flowers, etc. It reminded me how much and how important our volunteers are and what they mean to our community.
