More than a dozen Macksville Mustang alumni basketball players, managers, and coaches came back to their hometown last week in person, and by zoom, to share in a special recognition for head Coach Jeff Kucklman’s 400-win achievement.

On Tuesday, February 4, the Thunderbirds of Skyline High School (Pratt) hosted the Trojans of Stafford High. The teams were very familiar with each other’s game as they had multiple opportunities to see the opposition in action the previous week at the 54 Classic. This contest ended with a showdown finish, 47-41, in Skyline’s favor.
On January 28, 31, and February 1, the Skyline Thunderbirds Girls’ Team got to play in the friendly confines of the Thunderdome for the 54 Classic Tournament. This was year 21 for this much-anticipated event, and as is the tradition, the boys’ and girls’ teams traded the home-court advantage with the Cunningham Wildcats just down the road. This year’s tournament was eight teams strong, including; Attica, Cunningham, Kinsley, Medicine Lodge, Norwich, Stafford, South Barber, and of course, Skyline.
The annual Pratt Area Chamber of Commerce Gala is a fun event that brings together many different people from the Pratt business community and supportive individuals for good food, fun conversations, and awards that recognize the many diverse parts of the community.
Perhaps it has been one of Pratt’s best kept secrets that the Baymont by Wyndham (704 Allison Lane) General Manager Megan Nixon was the hotel chains General Manager of the Year in 2023, but those who attended a Pratt Area Chamber Coffee Chat meeting last Thursday at the establishment learned that award is not the only high honor for the Pratt hotel.
