Crossing the Threshold: I accept the assignment

I read with amusement our Tribune columnist Ron Moore’s summary printed last week of what other columnists write about in the pages of the Tri-County Tribune on a regular basis. He was right when he noted that I, personally, have not written much in the way of opinions lately. It’s not that I don’t have plenty of opinions or subjects to write about; they swirl in my head constantly, begging to be let out on paper. The problem is timing (there is never enough) and the responsibility I take seriously that comes with serving as editor of this publication takes priority over personal opine.

Pastoral Commentary: Imagine if we could love others as God loves us

I can be pretty selfish sometimes and try to make the whole world about me. Do you ever do that? Most of us probably do at some point. And sometimes I do that when I think about how much God loves ME! See I know that I am a blessed child of God and that God loves me more than I can understand. What I forget is, that God loves everyone else that much too. That’s EVERYONE else. All of us.

America’s inaugural traditions include a variety of firsts

The Constitution is very limited in establishing traditional guidelines for the inauguration, saying only that there should be a taking of an oath. President Washington started the tradition of the Inaugural Address. James and Dolly Madison started the tradition of a reception and an inaugural ball. Thomas Jefferson’s second inauguration began the tradition of an open house at the executive mansion, but that tradition ended as a result of over eager crowds destructively overwhelming the White House.

Preston 4-H Club shares Christmas carols with local retirement communities

The Preston 4-H Club held a special December meeting at Parkwood Village on December 15 at 4:30 p.m. in Pratt. President Rylan Rockenbach called the meeting to order. Junior Secretary Morgan Smith led the club in roll call, which was answered with your favorite Christmas song. There were 10 members, 1 clover bud, and 1 community leader present.

Lady Tigers create flurries of their own with home-game win streak

There have been several snow flurries in the Tri-County Tribune area of sports coverage to start off the new year, but the St. John Lady Tigers basketball team are creating some flurries of their own. With three games this past week, the St.John-Hudson girls have pushed their record up to 8-1 storming to 15 straight wins at home dating back to last season.
