Area schools get off to a great start

School has started for all ages of students in the Tri-County Tribune coverage area, and despite the heat, students and teachers are having fun getting back into the rhythm of classes, schedules, and learning.At Skyline Schools, middle school students enjoyed a special water fun day on August 16, complete with sponge relays, red solo cup competitions, and other group activities.“It was a good way to cool off and celebrate students back in the classroom on our first Friday together,” said High School Prinicipal and Co-Middle School Principal Steve Novotny.Novotny steps into an administrative position this year after serving as high school and middle school band director for several years in the district.

Twilight Theatre supported by successful Gala event in Greensburg

George Ryan and the board of directors for Greensburg Twilight Theatre & Community Auditorium are resting just a bit easier these days, thanks to a successful 2024 Twilight Gala Fundraiser.According to Ryan, more than $35,000 (after expenses) was raised at this year’s annual event, which marked the 105th Birthday of the Twilight Theatre and the 9th anniversary of it’s rebirth.“The board and I want to thank all the people and businesses that made this possible,” Ryan said.

Annual trip brings friends together again

There were no falling stars to view this year, but that was okay.The annual weekend at the cabin just outside of Historic Scott State Park—always planned to intersect with when the Perseid meteorite shower is at its height—has ended, and nobody went home disappointed.Tradition brought everyone together for one more year: Verlyn, the weekend’s founder; Jack, his cousin; Marcia, his classmate from Berean Academy; and, me, his friend from Biking Across Kansas (going back to the early 2000s).What makes Scott special?
