Pratt woman recalls scary high-speed chase on U.S. Highway 54
Kristi Leslie of Pratt was still shaking days after getting run off the road by a suspect in a high-speed car chase that ended with an officer-involved shooting last Monday on the western side of Pratt County.“I was just getting ready to head out to work when my husband texted me there was a high speed chase on the highway I drive,” Leslie said.

Pratt band holds hometown marching showcase
When unfavorable weather conditions caused the cancellation of a high school marching festival at which Pratt’s Pride of South Central Kansas band was supposed to perform, band teacher and director Jeffrey Poort came up with an alternative plan.“The Pratt High Greenbacks band students have worked so hard to prepare for the competition, that we have decided to host a special performance at home,” Poort said.Their ‘halftime performance’ was judged by local band officianados Bob Bitter, Don Buehler and Emily Gilpin, all of which awarded the pink-shirted band with 1+ ratings for their performance.The show included not only marching and musical numbers, but also a “Simon Says” type of contest which pitted band members against each other in a close listening and marching sequence type of competition.The supportive crowd and fun atmosphere combined in a resulting enjoyable experience for all involved.The band is now hard at work preparing for pep-band basketball season.
