Delp Tree Farm is a third generation family-owned business in St. John, Kansas. Delp Tree Farm began in 1959 by Cecil and Ruby Delp. Since that time Tony and Linda Delp, and Joel and Sarah Delp have carried on the family tradition. Delp Tree farm opened for the Christmas season November 25. Their hours are Monday through Friday from 1-6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 1-6 p.m.
With just over 150 residents in the City of Iuka, one might not think there is not much to do or celebrate at Christmas. But that would be wrong. Mayor Marsha Giggy and more two dozen fellow Iukans, plus more who came and went throughout the morning, gathered Saturday, December 10 at The Lunchroom Cafe to celebrate Christmas and connect with each other while having some good old-fashioned holiday fun.
Jakob O’Brien of Alva, Oklahoma found a possible elephant tusk when he went home for Thanksgiving break last month. It wasn’t until he brought his findings back to Haviland where he is a youth ministry student at Barclay College to get help from the local creation science expert, Dr. Jerry Simmons at the Heart of America Science Museum, that he realized how exciting this find of his might be.
The Pratt High School Girls’ Basketball team recently competed in the annual Cheney tournament, which featured six teams from around Kansas. Lady Greenbacks Gabby Gatlin (sr) and Jaycie Theis (jr) earned all-tournament team honors as the girls battled hard in all their games gaining one win over El Dorado, but two losses against Cheney and Wellington.
Success at rural Kansas requires adaptability and resourcefulness. School staff in these communities learn that flexibility and creativity are essential attributes if they are to prepare students for successful futures.
