This past week was a strong kick off for both levels of Pratt High School scholar’s bowl teams. Coaches Kyle Farmer and Farrah Schmidt said there were strong individual performances, as well as matches that required grit among the whole team.

Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt stopped in Pratt for coffee and conversation Friday, October 29 at Don’s Servateria on First Street. Introduced to a receptive crowd by former Pratt County Sheriff Vernon Chinn, Schmidt said these meet-and-greet occasions were important as they reminded him what was important to the people he serves and hopes to serve as future Governor of Kansas.
The Kansas Junior Livestock Show got its start in November 1933, drawing 500 exhibitors and more than 1,000 head of livestock to the Wichita (Kan.) Forum. Since then, the 90-yearold event has stayed true to its heritage by continuing to be the largest youth livestock show in the state.This year, more than 700 exhibitors entered 1,422 animals in the show, which was held Sept.
Halloween is Elizabeth Walker’s favorite holiday. New to the helm of the Pratt Education Center in April 2022, Walker jumped right into updates that have added new life and some spooky creatures to the displays at Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks east of Pratt.
Though hot summer days are still a vivid memory, the temperature changes of fall are hinting at what lies ahead on the seasonal calendar, spurring some local folks into action to prepare for the Operation Christmas Child project in connection with Samaritan’s Purse.
Halloween fun was found by many in Greensburg this past weekend and on Monday. Between pumpkin carving opportunities, eyescream sundaes and truck or treat events, there was something for just about everyone.
Skyline’s cross-country team concluded its season with a trip to the state cross-country meet at Wamego on Saturday, Oct. 29. The boys team came in at ninth place. Of the individual qualifiers, Jude Nelson finished 16th among 94 contestants for the boys. In the girls division, Trystan Harrold finished 39th among 89 contestants for the Thunderbirds.
Houses for sale in Pratt are nothing new; there was a time just a few years ago when more than 150 homes were available at one time. In 2022, the housing market in Pratt tightened, and as inflation soared, affordability became an issue. But not to fear, several lower level houses are coming up for auction this week and next in Pratt, some part of a sheriff ’s tax sale, others a quartet offered by a local real estate company.
