Sciences, Texas A&M University Fall and winter holiday celebrations often include festive eats and treats— Halloween and candy are synonymous, as are Thanksgiving and turkey. As the holiday season approaches, it’s important to remember that increased candy and other holiday foods in the home may be cause for paw-se for pet parents.

Pratt resident shares spooky story with Thursday evening crowd at art museum

To a hushed crowd of listeners, poet and recently- published author Janet Rode read one of her short stories, Dark Produce, to a small crowd Thursday at the Vernon Filley Art Museum in Pratt. Herself now a fourmonth resident of Pratt, Rode said she has spent most of her life choosing the roads less traveled. She finds joy, sorrow, and frequently, wisdom in almost everyone she meets. She said her written work resonates because it is reflective of how much we are alike, even when we differ. Although she has tried her hand at many forms of writing, from fiction and newspaper columns to essays, she always returns to her poetry, her first love.

Sen. Moran visits Pratt Rotary Club

Though he declared he was not on an official campaign trail visit, Kansas Senator Jerry Moran (R) spoke to a packed room of Pratt Rotary Club members and guests last Thursday during a regular lunch meeting of that group at Pratt Community College. After an introduction by Pratt Rotary member Susan Page, Moran was invited to say a few words from the podium by Pratt Rotary President Suzan Patton.

Kiowa County employees honored at statewide FSA meeting

Kiowa County Farm Service Agency members received a special award during a Farm Service Agency awards ceremony on Wednesday, September 28. The Eisenhower Legacy Award Winners were invited to the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum in Abilene for a reception and meal.The event provided an opportunity to celebrate award winners, reflect on the preceding year, and share achievements.
