Kansas Leopold Conservation Award 2022 finalists selected

Special to the Tribune Given in honor of renowned conservationist Aldo Leopold, the prestigious award recognizes farmers, ranchers, forestland owners, and other landowners who inspire others with their dedication to land, water and wildlife resources in their care. Sand County Foundation and national sponsor American Farmland the Leopold Conservation Award to private landowners in 24 states for extraordinary achievement in voluntary conservation.

The difference between summer and winter squash harvesting

By Chris Himmelwright Pratt County Master Gardener Pratt County Research and Extension Harvesting Winter Squash Summer squash such as zucchini and scallop are harvested while immature but winter squash such as acorn, hubbard and butternut are harvested later, in the mature stage, after the rind is tough and seeds have developed. We normally think September is the time that winter squash are harvested.

Dick Anderson, The Voice of the Greenbacks, honored with press box dedication

Dick Anderson of Pratt, known to many as the voice of the Greenbacks, lost a hard-fought battle with cancer on May 12, 2022, but thanks to the dedication of his many fans, the press box at Pinkall Field in the Green Sports Complex will forever carry his name. Anderson was the signature voice on the radio for teams such as Pratt High School Football and Pratt Community College Basketball.
