Here we are in the grip of yet another Covid-19 surge, yet most people I see out and about are behaving as if the pandemic is over. And I live in Los Angeles County, California, whose public health department is arguably one of the most vigilant and proactive in the U.S.

By Sandy Smith Special to the News sunflowersenior28@ yahoo.com Sunflower Senior Center attenders were saddened with the cancellation of the Stafford County Seniors Picnic scheduled for August 6, 2022. However, the good news is it will be rescheduled in the fall.
Due to the lack of a quorum, there was no county commission meeting on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. The commission will meet to canvass votes from the August 2, 2022 primary election sometime this week and to conduct their usual weekly meeting.
In 2011 this journey began, and the Macksville City Library’s motto was “Dreaming Bigger!” With help from the South Central Kansas Library System, we consulted an architect and drew up preliminary plans. We then approached the City Council and were told, “If you can raise the funds, you can build it...” Now, 11 years down the road, and hundreds of memorials, many fundraisers, numerous grants, multiple gifts, raffles, and donations later, we are breaking ground for the new addition! On August 8, construction workers were scheduled to begin groundwork on the addition to the library.
