South Central Community Foundation (SCCF) is excited to announce the new grant opportunity for Pratt County nonprofits called the Marjorie Gillig Grant. This grant, created by a gift from Marjorie’s estate, will help support projects or programs impacting the following areas: Music and Arts, Primary Education, Senior Activities, Community Organizations, Church Programs, or Mission Trips.
On Monday, June 27th, the USD 438 Board of Education met to discuss several new updates and other sorts of information. The meeting was kicked off with a report by the superintendent, Becca Flowers. This included updates on legislative and financial news. Flowers also noted that the Skyline campus will be closed to activities that were not scheduled on Friday – Sunday. This included both student and adult activity.

There have been three main ways to celebrate the 4th of July around Pratt for several years - 1) go to the Pratt County Veterans Memorial Lake for the annual American Legion fireworks show, 2) go to Elm Mills for their semi-private but annual fireworks show, 3) buy your own fireworks and shoot them off when and where permissible. This year the Pratt Merchant Park Farmers Market group added a third option.
David Swank, Pratt High School Assistant Principal and Athletics Director has announced the 2022 inductees to the Greenback Hall of Fame Class. Carter Barker, Ray Immell, Tobin Melroy,and Lieutenant Colonel John R. Schwartz will be honored later this year with a special celebration during PHS Homecoming activities on Friday, October 7.
Effective June 27, Governor Laura Kelly has approved updated drought declarations for Kansas counties with Executive Order #22-06. This drought declaration places all 105 Kansas counties either in watch, warning or emergency status.
