Danny Smith Basketball Camp was held at St. John High School June 6-16. There were approximately 70 students who participated. Participants came from St.John, Pratt, Cunningham, Fairfield, Pretty Prairie, Macksville and Great Bend.
Members of Kanza Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution presented a Flag Day program on June 14 for residents at Kenwood Plaza in St. John.
When a pair of armadillos showed up in Beth Ussleman’s yard last fall, she was a little surprised. They were among the last critters she would expect to take up residence in her Hesston yard.
A special event will take place at the Vernon Filley Art Museum from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, one that has connections to many people in Pratt and the surrounding area. Museum co-director Stan Reimer is retiring from more than 20 years of service to the art museum, and co-workers and staff want the community to know their presence at his retirement celebration is expected. Reimer also owns Stan Reimer Photography, a full-fledged photography studio in Pratt, and will continue work on his own projects at 113 W. Second Street.
The Pratt Area Chamber of Commerce (PACC) Board of Directors is glad to announce that Ashley Fitzsimmons Smith will begin duties July 5 as their new President and Chief Executive Officer. Smith comes to PACC from IMI Global, where she has worked as a Sales Coordinator & Customer Verification Specialist.

John 8: 12 “Then spoke Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” It’s a little after ten in the evening. There’s nothing on TV I’m interested in and after a hard day of retirement, I’m too tired to read.
I am a mom of three kids, when my kids were little, it was not unusual for me to help them clean their rooms. Today they are all grown now one lives on his own with his own family and the youngest two, live with us. They all have their own jobs and are responsible adults except when it comes to cleaning.
Why does God appear so hard on men versus women? He says, “Husbands . . . do not be harsh with [your wives].” (Colossians 3:18) And He follows that up with, “Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.” (Col. 3:20) Since God is all-wise, why did He not address the women, teaching them not to be harsh with their husbands, and urging them also to refrain from provoking the children?
