Look out for bagworms

PRATT, Kan. - Many beautifully manicured lawns and gardens become victims of a devastating pest every year. This pest is called the bagworm. Bagworms are normally found in shrubs, cedar, pine and spruce trees. Even though most young larvae hatch and emerge during mid- to late-May, it is common to see damage in late-July to early-August. However it is difficult to control bagworms that are that size, “They are much easier to kill while small,” Upham says.

State, local officials support construction kickoff for Bartlett’s $375M soybean crushing plant in Southeast Kansas

CHERRYVALE, Kan. - Construction is underway on a $375 million soybean crushing facility in Southeast Kansas that will provide an important source of feedstock for producing renewable fuels, food products and animal feeds. Located in Montgomery County, the plant will be owned and operated by Bartlett, a Savage Company, and capable of handling approximately 45 million bushels of soybeans annually to crush into soybean meal and refined soybean oil. The Bartlett plant will create about 50 permanent jobs when operations commence in early 2024, and support additional jobs and economic activity during construction.

Pratt’s DeWeese lead teaches Agriscience Professional Development Virtual Institute

Anita DeWeese of Pratt recently lead taught a 5-day AFNR professional development virtual institute for twenty-three participants. Participants from 13 states participated in this excellent opportunity for intense professional development. The institute provided experience in a full year of curriculum for Introduction to Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources. The curriculum was written by Curriculum for Agricultural Science Education (CASE), which is an initiative of The National Council for Agricultural Education and managed by the National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE).

Facebook Marketplace scams are using Google Voice platforms

Selling unwanted items around your house to pick up some extra money is easier than ever, thanks to the social media platforms that offer the service. Recent years have seen Facebook Marketplace grow in popularity, competing with eBay and Craigslist. But your Better Business Bureau (BBB) warns that reports are coming in of scammer activities on the Marketplace site here in Kansas which are using Google Voice verification.
