June 23 was Pink Flamingo Day worldwide. This day was originally declared in 2007 to honor the work of Don Featherstone, the creator of the plastic lawn flamingo. These iconic yard ornaments have been on the market since 1958. In 1996, Featherstone was awarded the Nobel Art Prize for his creation. Some people love them, others may find them tacky, but the plastic flamingos have certainly made a name for themselves.
