Food production in Kansas should not be torn apart by useless arguments

I want to tell you a story about why I, a non-farmer or rancher, fell in love with farmers and ranchers more than a decade ago. My son, Isaac McNary, and I tumbled out of the Andes in Colombia, South America, into an ancient Spanish city with cobblestone streets, adobe homes with wrought iron windows and doors, and a rainbow of multicolored bougainvillea cascading over the roof tops and down the side walls.

Van Blaricum honored by McPherson College

McPHERSON, KAN. – The McPherson College Citation of Merit award recipients exemplify the college’s mission of Service, Scholarship, and Participation through their lifelong commitment to the values they developed as students at McPherson College. The college honored this year’s recipients at a dinner on April 22 at the Cedars Conference Center in McPherson. Citation of Merit awards went to Annette Van Blaricum ’68, Roger Trimmell ’73, and Jeff Bach ’79.

Pratt High School forensics team shares state competition experiences

FORENSICS STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS Balloon animals, persuasive speeches, and acting - what do they all have in common? Pratt High Forensics team and competition at 4A State Championships at Topeka’s Washburn Rural High School! The Greenbacks traveled to the state capitol May 6th and 7th for state-level competition and brought home a gold, two silvers, and a sixth place from finals. Sophomore Addison Hopkins came home with a gold medal for his Humorous Solo, a comedic piece satirizing Sesame Street and gumshoe detective stories.

PCC to suspend LPN Nursing Program at close of Spring 22 Semester

The PN program at PCC has maintained a high level of success due to the dedication of its faculty, staff and administration. This is further evidenced by students’ National Council of State Boards Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) test scores ranking consistently higher than national average pass rates over the past several years. However, continued enrollment and staffing challenges played a large role in the final decision.

The saga of Carl and Walter

The boats high-tech gear locked us onto a spot where the walleyes began biting like crazy. The water was so rough that every couple minutes a wave broke over the bough, creating a constant stream of lake water down the middle of the boat toward the drain beneath, forcing us to run the bilge pump every five minutes. The boat’s owner and captain, who is as experienced a fisherman and boater as anyone I know muttered numerous times “I don’t know if it’s going to work for us to be out here!” … And then along came Carl; let me explain.
