Ephesians 1:7 “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.” There is a very special and supernatural connection between the Christian and God. That connection is built on our understanding of God’s thinking and His spiritual influence in our lives.

It is not the nation but the church that must repent

The National Day of Prayer was just celebrated on May 5. A verse that always comes up at this time is 2 Chronicles 7:14. I do not think that most people know the circumstances surrounding this verse. It is commonly assumed that it was during a time of exile, a time when the people were already under judgment by God. But it wasn’t. It was a grand time of great celebration. Solomon had completed the first Temple in Jerusalem and had voiced a prayer of dedication to God.

KU leading project to test new business model for rural, weekly newspapers

LAWRENCE — Business has changed since 1833. One would be hardpressed to find businesses operating with the same model that was in place when Andrew Jackson was in the White House. But in the case of newspapers, many are still operating with the same business model established when Benjamin Day opened the first penny press nearly 200 years ago. A University of Kansas professor of journalism is leading a project to test a new model based on research with publishers and readers to help rural newspapers adapt, survive and thrive.

Finney County officials look for ways to get rid of blackbird nuisances

Possible future mitigation of various blackbirds and other nuisance bird species was discussed at last Monday’s Finney County Commission meeting. Blackbirds and other species include European starlings, common grackles, great-tailed grackle, red-winged blackbirds, American crown, Eurasian collared dove and pigeons are causing problems and people are fed up with it in Garden City and across the county.

It’s moving time; here’s how to do it scam-free

Since 1997, May has been designated as National Moving Month. It marks the beginning of the nation’s busiest time of year for moving – May through August. Your Better Business Bureau (BBB) fielded nearly 1,100 complaints against moving companies last year. BBB’s Scam Tracker had reports of more than $730,000 lost to moving scammers, a 216% increase from 2020. As we approach mid-May, this is a good time for consumers to educate themselves on how to avoid victimization by unscrupulous companies, and smooth out the famously rocky process of relocating their residence.
