Car problems? Troy Fisher can help

Troy Fisher has been the owner of Fisher Service Center for two years; however, he has been working there for the last 17 years. Fisher Service Center, St. John, Kansas, was established in 1988 by Troy’s father, Larry Fisher. Troy is a life-long St. John resident. He is the one employee in the building that answers calls, schedules appointments, orders and replaces parts, and takes payments. Troy’s wife, Alisa, does the bookkeeping.

Local seniors share news and events

The Monthly Pot Luck Supper for Sunflower Senior Center was held May 2 in St. John. Fifteen seniors enjoyed the program by Sister Paulynn Instenes, who shared “Lessons I Learned from my Students” while teaching in locations including Wisconsin, Guam, Mississippi, and Zimbabwe, Africa. Every month we enjoy the delicious food each person in attendance brings to share. There are many excellent cooks in the group.

Commencement brings new beginnings

As the final days of school come to a close, we have a lot of activities planned: banquets, concerts, awards assemblies, field trips, and sports events. For many kids, the countdown to the end of school has begun. The class of 2022 is looking forward to their upcoming commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 14 at 1 p.m. in the main gym.

Don’t fence me in: Collaborative virtual fencing study aims to advance conservation, ranching outcomes

MANHATTAN — Imagine cattle ranching without traditional fencing and the costly, time-consuming fencing repairs. Two Kansas State University ecologists are working to make that vision a reality while benefiting streams and birds. It’s part of a multi-partner research project using virtual electronic cattle fencing in the Flint Hills of Kansas.

Pilot Club Express Train at Six Street Park May 14, 21 - The Pilot Express will run on Saturdays in May except Memorial Weekend from 2-4. This will be a fundraiser for Pilot Club’s next ambitious project at 6th Street Park in Pratt to compliment the Friendship Playground.

Supreme Court, Americans grapple with life questions and illegal drugs coming across the border

This week, an initial draft U.S. Supreme Court majority opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade was leaked to the public. If the Court does indeed overturn this ruling, the prayers of millions of people over the last 50 years will finally be answered, and I will join in the celebration of the greatest victory for the unborn in my lifetime.
