Pratt High School tennis team experienced a different kind of season due to court issues

The Pratt High School tennis team faced adversity throughout their spring season, dealing with weather issues that went beyond just wind and rain. The resurfacing project at their home courts, the Walter Blake Tennis Complex, was put behind schedule because of weather issues, causing limited court access for not only the PHS Greenbacks but also the PCC men’s tennis team which shares the facility.

State health tags Kiowa County as a food desert

Kiowa County Commissioners met in a regular session on Monday, May 16, 2022. Their general business items began with the approval of a Consent Agenda and financial signatures. Also, a written report of the recent insurance inspection for the county’s buildings was reviewed, followed by the notice that a K-Camp representative will be attending the next meeting of county department heads to schedule defensive driving training.

Armed Forces Day is this Saturday

Armed Forces Day [AFD] is observed each year on the third Saturday in May. It is the designated day Americans celebrate their armed defenses and pay tribute to those serving in all military branches. Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of AFD on August 31, 1949, to replace separate Army, Navy, and Air Force Days and unify the armed forces under one agency, the U. S. Department of Defense. Each of the named branches adopted the newly formed AFD in place of their own celebration; albeit, the Marine Corps declined to drop their day of observance but still participates in AFD (U.S.).

New purchases and “The Beakery” school cafe’ plan presented at USD 438 BOE meeting

Several purchases and presentations were discussed at Skyline Schools’ Monday, May 5th Board of Education meeting. The first of these was a presentation by teacher Taylor Stratford and a couple of her students. They proposed a new school business, called “The Beakery”. This business would be a school café where students could get a variety of snacks. If approved, this business would be put in effect during the 2022-23 school year.

Local professionals complete leadership learning

Congratulations to the 2021-2022 graduates of the Pratt Leadership League, who were recognized last week during their last session for their year long dedication and achievement. “What a fantastic year getting to work with these terrific and special people,” said program facilitator Lisa Perez-Miller, who was joined by Jeanette Siemens in providing organization for the league).
