Mustang gals win over the Coyotes

Macksville (10-6, 1-1 CPL) led 16-6 after the first quarter eight minutes before outscoring the Kinsley Coyotes 13-7 in the second quarter for a 29-17 advantage at halftime From there, the Lady Stangs were able to widen their lead on their way to the 37-point win. Kambry Adams led the Lady Stangs with 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals. Mayce Russell added 13 points, 3 assists and 7 steals. Senior Abi Ibarra ended with 6 points, 7 steals, and 3 assists. Junior Joselin Garcia added 9 points, 4 assists, 2 blocks, and 5 steals. The Lady Stangs’ next match-up is against the Lady Aces of Bucklin.

Players step up to lead as Pratt boys battle through tough games

The Pratt High Sschool boys’ basketball team has found great success through the beginning and middle of the season. While they have had their share of blowout victories, there have also been a couple of games that have required them to face adversity and use grit to persevere through them. After a couple of tough losses to Hesston and Hillsboro, the program managed to bounce back with a much-needed sweep over Halstead on Tuesday, February 8th.

Rattlesnake Meat Company opens doors for meat-lovers in Pratt area

Matt and Marci Wooster are the faces and managers of Rattlesnake Meat Company, a new storefront in Pratt that is affiliated with Morning Star Farms in Kiowa County. Located at 112 N. Main Street in Pratt where the former Gatlin Pharmacy used to do business, the Rattlesnake Meat Company uses that space for eight large deep freezers that are stocked with a wide-variety of beef cuts to meet customers needs.

Kiowas County Senior Center participants enjoyed a fun spirit week along with KCHS students last week dressing comfy, in Maverick gear, in a Peace and Love style and then all dressed up on Friday for homecoming.

The nursing shortage has many reasons

Imagine that you’re having fun with your friends watching a movie just enjoying yourselves, then out of nowhere your friend passes out. The friend gets back up and seems fine, but you still decide to go to the hospital. You sit in the waiting room, and it takes a couple hours to get admitted, and in that time your friend gets a fever. After admitted, you sit there and people walk by your door. You see people running from room to room. In this time your friend gets progressively worse. You decide to leave to find a nurse to help. You get back, and all you see is the monitor flat-lining.

Recent Major League Baseball lockout sparked league controversy

At 12:01 a.m. EST on December 2, 2021, the 30 clubs of Major League Baseball unanimously voted to initiate a league wide “lockout.” This was enacted when the 2016 collective bargaining agreement between the league and the players’ union expired. Commissioner Rob Manfred issued a statement saying that the league had officially entered the first lockout since the strike of the 1994-1995 season, which resulted in the cancellation of the 1994 World Series.
