True North prepares a home for foster care boys in Haviland

True North is a foster care group in Kiowa County that is aiming to provide the gold standard in foster care homes for kids. Executive director Brad Lingafelter said he is aiming to be able to provide a place for teenage boys who are a part of the foster care system that are in need of housing. Recently, this program closed a purchase on a home that is going to be a place for these kids to call home.

2022 Charlie and Nila Swayze Scholarship available for Barber County students

South Central Community Foundation (SCCF) is pleased to announce that the Charlie & Nila Swayze Scholarship will be awarding two $1,000 scholarship recipients for 2022! This scholarship is awarded to outstanding Medicine Lodge High School graduates with financial need who have at least a 3.0 GPA or ACT score of at least 20.

USD 382 Board of Education: Creadick and May to switch positions in district leadership

USD 382 Board of Education members attended to a variety of purchases and personnel changes at their Feb. 14 meeting. Superintendent Tony Helfrich kicked off the meeting sharing his concern about two public education bills under discussion in the state legislature. The first one encompassed transparency in public schools, and the second one would allow home-schooled students to participate in school sports.

When praying for rain, don’t forget your raincoat

We’ve heard the old saying that life is not a bed of roses for as long as we can remember. I understand what it’s trying to convey, but I’ve also thought it would not be all that great to lie down on a bed of sharp thorns. Nevertheless, the point is that life will have its ups and downs and most of us will experience our share of hard times. Whether it’s a financial worry, a medical situation, relationship problems, or being concerned for the condition of the world; life is a daily challenge. However, amid all that is going on, we have the opportunity to know God who is an endless source of love, authority, and hope. We can choose to embrace the encouraging truth that He cares about our problems and to believe that He has the answers and the power to give us the victory no matter how dark the night or how tall our mountain. “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work” II Corinthians 9:8.
