Pratt Community College men’s basketball team lost a heart-breaker to Garden City. Garden City Tone Hunter scored 27 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds as 16th-ranked Broncbusters held on to beat Pratt, 102-99.
Pratt, Kan. – Last weekend the #4 Pratt Community College (PCC) wrestling team traveled to Colby, KS for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) South-Central District Championships. The district championships comprised of teams from both NJCAA Region II and IV. After a very successful day on the mats the Beavers qualified ten wrestlers for the NJCAA National Championships in Council Bluff, IA on March 4-5.
St John’s boys and girls both picked up a win over the Macksville Mustangs in Friday basketball action. In the girls game St John controlled the scoreboard and the game with a 42-15 victory over Macksville. In the boys game St John was able to secure a 59-49 win over Macksville.
Kiowa County High School boys and girls both picked up a win over the Spearville Lancers last week. In the boys game it was a very slow start for the Kiowa County Mavericks when it took on Spearville Lancers on Friday.
vwBrad Yaeger is announcing his retirement as President/CEO effective March 2022, after 42 years in banking and serving 3 years as President at Legacy Bank (formerly State Bank of Colwich). Yaeger joined the family-owned Bank in 1988 and transitioned into the role of President when Frank Suellentrop retired in December 2018.
On February 8, 2022, Sweet Shoppe 56 celebrated its one year anniversary. Located in the same building as Woody’s Sports Bar and Grill on Pratt’s S. Main Street, the Sweet Shoppe is an ice-cream shop that makes all of its own ice cream. The venture evolved out of the Yum Truck, a 1956 Ford Vanette owned by Craig and Sarah Clifton, that the couple had restored into an ice-cream truck. After the success of the Yum Truck, the owner of Woody’s invited them to set up shop in their present location.
The Pratt Regional Airport played host to a federal training operation on Saturday, Feb. 19 as members of the Civil Air Patrol came to town, and found the area quite to their liking.
The Haviland City Council convened in a special session on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, due to a lack of quorum the previous week. Mayor Stokes called the meeting to order, and council members reviewed the current financials, authorized payment of expenses for the month, and approved the January Meeting Minutes.
Jonathan Clayton, Director of Economic Recovery for Kansas, reported to the Haviland City Council on February 16 that a cheese company will be located in Ford County and could impact eastern Kiowa County. With this new endeavor will come workers in need of adequate housing and supporting businesses to provide the goods and services for the neoteric operation.
