In separate opinions, the Kansas Supreme Court affirmed the death sentences for both Carr defendants on Friday, January 21, 2022. The Kansas Supreme Court had previously reversed the defendants’ death sentences, but in 2014 Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt and Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett appealed that ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court. Schmidt personally argued the state’s appeal, and the U.S. Supreme Court reversed the Kansas Supreme Court’s erroneous decision.

August Siefkes, junior at Great Bend High School, has been selected as first chair mallets for the State Honors Band which will perform at the Kansas Music Educatiors Association Convention on February 24-25 at Century II in Wichita.
The Pratt High School Scholar’s Bowl Team has proven that they are a force to be reckoned with around the South-Central Kansas area. They have experienced great success frequently at past meets, and are looking forward to a couple more in the coming weeks. Kyle Farmer, Head Scholar’s Bowl Coach, said that he is extremely proud of how both teams have competed so far.
