Back to the mask

On January 17, the US government announced that it will be distributing 400 million N95 masks at pharmacies and federal community health centers across the nation. Here’s a proposed theme for 2022: “Back to the mask.” Admittedly, over the past few months, I have been somewhat lackadaisical about wearing a mask inside public places, outside of nursing homes, hospitals, and church, where this is either required or else highly encouraged.

AG Derek Schmidt affirms Kansas Supreme Court death penalty sentences for Jonathan D. Carr and Reginald D. Carr Jr.

In separate opinions, the Kansas Supreme Court affirmed the death sentences for both Carr defendants on Friday, January 21, 2022. The Kansas Supreme Court had previously reversed the defendants’ death sentences, but in 2014 Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt and Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett appealed that ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court. Schmidt personally argued the state’s appeal, and the U.S. Supreme Court reversed the Kansas Supreme Court’s erroneous decision.

The critical promise of redemption

When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was the promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

PHS Scholar’s Bowl Team battles adversity, exemplifies Greenback qualities of grit

The Pratt High School Scholar’s Bowl Team has proven that they are a force to be reckoned with around the South-Central Kansas area. They have experienced great success frequently at past meets, and are looking forward to a couple more in the coming weeks. Kyle Farmer, Head Scholar’s Bowl Coach, said that he is extremely proud of how both teams have competed so far.
