Fundraising continues for PHS trip to Carnegie Hall

Members of the Pratt High Chamber Singers choral group found out in 2021 that they had been invited to attend a performance at Carnegie Hall, located in New York City. This trip is set to happen in late March 2022. Dr. Julie Yu, one of the choral directors at K-State, invited Brandon Wade, PHS and LMS Choir Teacher, to be part of a large choir that includes students from all over the country.

Snow and ice bring New Year’s Day glaze to Pratt County

A WINTER STORM with dangerous wind chills, sleet and snow blew across Kansas on the last day of the year, putting a crimp in some plans and providing some with an opportunity to make bank. Pratt Regional Airport sent out a notam to alert any pilots planning to fly in late Friday into Saturday that weather conditions were not favorable for a landing in Pratt last week, but measurable amounts of snowfall were hard to come by.

Hardy hikers turn out for frigid First Day Hike in Pratt

FIRST DAY HIKES happen at state parks and other locations throughout the nation on January 1 each year. The Green Property Trails in Pratt have long been included in this annual event in Kansas, and even though January 1, 2022 dawned with below zero temperatures and snow on the ground, a hardy group of walkers showed up to participate in the 1 p.m. event in Pratt.

Entry competitions for Miss Kansas set for January 22 in Greensburg

FOR THE FIRST TIME in 18 years, Greensburg will be hosting a Miss Kansas entry pageant, giving young women the opportunity to compete for thousands of dollars in scholarships and serve their communities. Not only will Greensburg be the home of one crowning, but three total titles given to three women hoping for a chance to be Miss Kansas and after that, Miss America. The three titles will be Miss Kiowa County, Miss Southern Kansas, and Miss Southern Plains. Though competitors can come from anywhere in the state of Kansas for Miss Kiowa County or Miss Southern Kansas, those vying to be Miss Southern Plains must have graduated high school from within the Iroquois League.

Many were about local leaders, issues, business news and personalities, and indication that even in COVID-times, life went on for most.
